Day 1. Having arrived into Keflavik airport outside Reykjavik you are collected and taken to your guesthouse in Selfoss, stopping along the way at an active Geothermal area to see the power nature in the form of bubbling springs and boiling hot fissures. From there it's onto Selfoss with a visit to the local supermarket to stock up on supplies for the coming days.
Having checked into your guesthouse you are free to explore Selfoss and have an evening meal if you wish.
Day Two, having based ourselves at "Guesthouse Garun" in Selfoss on the south of the island it's an early start to travel the 45 minutes to the "Seljalandsfoss" waterfall where we will hike to the top (40 minutes) and take in the breathtaking views out to the south coast. From there it's onto our next waterfall "Skogarfoss" (30 minutes drive) where we will take the short boardwalk (30 minutes) to the top and again marvel at nature in all it's raw power.
From there it's onto our Glacier hike on the "Solheimajokull glacier" where we will spend approx 2 hours (4km) getting to know the nature of glaciers while hiking along this flowing "tongue" of ice. A reasonable level of fitness is needed for this walk. All training and equipment will be provided as part of the package. In the evening it's onto the Reykjavegur Hot Spring River Hike where you can relax in this wonder of nature while maybe having a chilled beer or glass of wine in the mineral rich hot spring river.
Day Three, it's another early start where we will be taking in part of "The Golden Circle" with a visit to the breathtaking "Gulfoss" waterfall, this waterfall has to be seen to be believed as words cannot describe it. Then it's onto the erupting hot spring "Strokkur" in the "Geysir" geothermal area and both the waterfall and Geysir are Iceland's number one tourist attraction. From there it's onto a "hidden gem" the little known " Secret Lagoon" where we can relax in Iceland's oldest swimming pool which is superheated from the nearby bubbling hot springs. Another must see in Iceland. Then finishing off with an evening watching the world famous and truly stunning "Northern Lights". (please note this is weather dependant).
Day Four, is probably the longest day we we will have as we will be climbing Iceland's most famous volcano "Hekla". It erupts approx every 15 years and last erupted 26th February 2000. This is a strenuous hike but walked at a slow pace to give you the best chance to take in this mighty volcano. It is not a technical climb and will take about 5.5 hours (10km) at a reasonable pace. (if weather is unsuitable an alternative lower walk will be provided)
Day Five, will be our easiest day with a short hike to Burhill mountain where you gain fantastic views over to Mount Hekla. This is a Three hour hike and will be taken at a slow pace to give the bodies the best chance to recover. From there it's onto one of Iceland's finest and most remote waterfalls "Haifoss" where we will hike down (4km 1.5 hr) to the base of this magical area. In the afternoon it's back into "Selfoss" for an evening meal (optional) where you can sample the local food on offer. This is a chance to look back at the last few days and soak in the memories of this magical island.
Day Six, Our day will start with a visit to the world famous "Blue Lagoon" spa which is one of the most visited attractions in Iceland. The spa is located in a lava field in Grindavik on the Reykjanes Peninsula. The warm waters are rich in minerals like Silica and Sulfur. This is a super way to relax before your long flight home. Then it's back into Reykjavik where you can explore the city and perhaps check out the local night life before your journey back to the airport for our flight home.
